Practice Greenhealth Receives Top ASAE Honors for its Healthier Hospitals Initiative
The health care sector leads their communities to healthier future
October 28, 2014 (Reston, Virginia) – Practice Greenhealth has earned a 2014 ASAE Power of A Gold Award for its Healthier Hospitals Initiative (HHI), a national campaign to implement a new approach to improving environmental health and sustainability in the health care sector.
The American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) honored Practice Greenhealth for enriching lives through its collaborative efforts to create guide for hospitals to reduce energy and waste, choose safer, less toxic products and purchase and serve healthier, locally sourced foods. Practice Greenhealth’s partners include Health Care Without Harm, the Center for Health Design and 12 of the largest health systems in the country. The guide includes tools, best practices, how-to information, one-on-one assistance and more, and considers the initiative an invitation for health care organizations to joint eh shift to a more sustainable business model.
“Congratulations to Practice Greenhealth for benefitting not just their own industry or profession, but society at large,” said Paul Pomerantz, CAE, CEO of the American Society of Anesthesiologists and chair of the Power of A Awards Judging Committee. “This year, our committee had an exceptionally strong group of entries to consider, and it’s heartening to see so many organizations excelling in their work.”
HHI has more than 1,100 enrolled hospitals in its program today, directly affecting more than 7.7 million patients. HHI will continue to implement sustainable operations and will measure the impact on improved patient, staff and community health, the environment and reduced costs. HHI’s implementation to date has yielded a body of evidence that demonstrates superior environmental performance.
“From leadership engagement to healthier foods, less waste and safer chemicals, health care systems throughout America are making a positive shift,” said Jeffrey Brown, Practice Greenhealth Executive Director. “Participating hospitals are ensuring they can focus on what they do best—healing patients.”
ASAE’s Power of A (association) Awards, the industry’s highest honor, recognize the association community’s valuable contributions on the local, national and global level. The Power of A Awards reward outstanding accomplishments of associations and industry professionals for their efforts to enrich lives, create a competitive workforce, prepare society for the future, drive innovation and make a better world.
